How My Child’s Locket Got Started

Back in the summer of 2008, while on vacation in Tennessee, Jay Osterholt saw firsthand how important it was to have information readily available on a child. After seeing his nephew get hurt and Jay's sister frantically searching through her phone and purse for information for her son’s doctor and medications. Jay started to wonder if there was a better way to keep information on children at one secure, easy and convenient place on the internet; including any and all the information that a parent needs to have when they are away from home, or even at home. Not having access to their child’s information in the file cabinet or safe poses a problem.

Jay pitched the idea to his friend Jeff Moore (Jeff, has twin daughters with many allergies. Jeff also holds a degree in Information Technology and a Masters of Business Administration). Jeff introduced Jason Cheatham (Jason, has a degree in Computer Science and a Masters degree in Computer Science, specializing in program security). After they heard Jay’s idea for a secure Web site were parents could keep their child’s information on one secure Web site, Jay could see their excitement about the project that would become My Child’s Locket.

Launched in the summer of 2009 for alpha testing, My Child’s Locket, a new Web-based service, aims to help parents keep their children healthy and safe by keeping medical, contact, and identifying information at their fingertips on a convenient, secure Web site. Instead of digging through files or having to place frantic phone calls, parents can retrieve and share information on medications, blood type, allergies, height and weight, distinguishing features, even photos with the click of a mouse. Our primary targets are parents, whom lead busy or active lifestyles. Our number one goal is to protect your child and have information readily available, anytime, anywhere for your child if an emergency were ever to occur. Our second goal is provide valuable information for parents such as AMBER alerts, consumer/product alerts, and sexual predator alerts. These features will be available in the future at MCL, and the information will be available via text message or email. MCL is creating the "one stop" shop for parents who are concerned for their child's well being. The internet is available everywhere and anytime (cell phones, laptops, home, hotels, hospitals, doctors offices, police station, etc.).

The private and secure website for your child here at My Child’s Locket was created with a user friendly interface and design. MCL is a dynamic place for parents’ to gather their child's information without all the advertising and pop-ups that other web sites are inundated with on the World Wide Web today. The most important topic during our management meetings while creating the web site was your child’s safety; where your child’s information could be accessed anytime and anywhere the World Wide Web is available.

My Child’s Locket went live on the world wide web on Feb, 17th 2010.
